Bilfinger VAM Anlagentechnik GmbH with patented memory technology on the market

Wels/Austria - Recently, the dual-zone system for unpressurized district heating accumulators was something entirely new, in the meantime the pilot plant, built by Bilfinger VAM Anlagentechnik for N-Ergie in Nuremberg has proven in operation for already over a year.

Now also the EU patent procedure for this accumulator-principle, which was invented by Dr. Hedbäck, a long time partner of Bilfinger VAM Anlagentechnik, and fully developed together with him, is completed.

Thus, Bilfinger VAM Anlagentechnik GmbH has secured the exclusive rights for this technology in all relevant European countries.

Technology - In a dual-zone accumulator, the tank volume is divided by an inside roof into an upper and a lower zone, which are hydraulically connected with each other. The hydrostatic pressure of the water mass contained in the upper zone charges the lower zone with a slightly overpressure.
This allows storing water at temperatures above 100 ° C in a non-pressurized tank, which brings substantial advantages, both technical and economic, for power plant operators. Big thermal capacities can be achieved with relatively little investment costs and with a technical solution, that requires low maintenance effort in operation.

Prospects - Increasing use of renewable energy in combination with a higher volatility on electricity and district heating market require an intensified implementation of heat accumulator systems.

The current project at Stadtwerke Kiel and the high interest of plant operators and engineering offices indicate, that Bilfinger VAM Anlagentechnik GmbH has again chosen the right way and can still assert itself as a technology leader in the district heating accumulator segment.
